In partnership with University Advocates for Women and Equity (UAWE), the Office of Human Resources is launching two new Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) for working moms and for people who are caring for sick or elderly family members. To launch the ERGs, HR is offering two different trainings through the Leadership Academy.
“Caring for the Elderly” will take place 11 a.m.-noon Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Anderson Student Center, James B. Woulfe Alumni Hall. This training explores the notion that caring for the elderly is multi-faceted and often emotionally difficult for the caregiver; at the same time it can be one of the most gratifying times in the caregiver’s life. Attendees will learn about monitoring and assessing the physical, mental and financial situations surrounding an elderly person and the importance of allowing them to preserve their own dignity and respect while helping the person deal with declining health and aging issues.
A second training, “Managing Your Mania,” will take place 11 a.m.-noon Thursday, Nov. 19, in McNeely Hall, Room 100. This course explains the various causes of stress, how our bodies respond to stress and warning signs of stress overload. Attendees will learn strategies for managing stress and avoiding burnout, and will discover how to positively change responses to stressful situations. Relaxation and recharging techniques also will be covered.
Please register for the trainings through the Leadership Academy. Attendees may sign up for either ERG at the trainings and will be contacted thereafter regarding next steps. If you have questions or are interested and unable to attend a training, please contact Michelle Thom in HR.
