President of Insightformation Inc. to Speak at Strategic Planning Breakfast Jan. 24

The Association for Strategic Planning presents “Strategy Management Best Practices: An Interactive Exploration and Assessment” at its breakfast series presentation on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Bill Barberg, president of Insightformation Inc., will lead the workshop.

Barberg notes how far too often even the most elegantly crafted strategic plans fail to be executed successfully. The emerging discipline of strategy management – largely built around Robert S. Kaplan and David Norton’s extensive work on strategy mapping and the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) methodology – provides powerful ways to overcome the obstacles to implementation.

Participants in this interactive workshop will learn some of the most powerful practices for improving strategic alignment and managing the implementation of strategic plans. They can use 25 techniques to assess their own organizations or consulting practices, resulting in an overall maturity rating. A discussion will be held for each of the five major categories of techniques to gain insights from the entire audience.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast and networking. The presentation and discussion will be held from 7:45 to 9 a.m. in Room 202, Opus Hall, on the university’s Minneapolis campus.

Cost of the breakfast presentation:

  • $25 – students and members
  • $35 – nonmembers
  • $40 – at the door

An internationally respected expert in strategy management and a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, Barberg has consulted with dozens of organizations to help them refine and enhance their strategy management systems and BSC deployments. His work with the Ministry of Works in Bahrain helped shape a strategy management system that David Norton referred to as “world class” and “as good as anything we’ve seen.” Authors Bernard Marr and James Creelman in their recent book, More with Less, refer to him as “a global thought leader” and “one of the select few global experts we interviewed for this book.”

Barberg has presented at three national ASP events and was invited back to co-present with a client this year in Chicago. His five-minute YouTube video on “Closing the Execution Gap” (see below) was one of the winners of the recent Association for Strategic Planning video contest.
