Students are invited to attend interfaith discussion groups that are held throughout the year. Sponsored by the Jay Phillips Center for Interfaith Learning, the discussions usually focus on films shown by the center and on books it distributes to discussion group members.
Food and beverages are provided during or after discussion sessions, and often the discussions take place before and during dinner.
During fall semester 2010, the center is organizing a student group that will meet for two interfaith dinners and discussions of the book Repentance: The Meaning and Practice of Teshuvah (Jewish Lights, 2010), by Dr. Louis Newman, a prominent Jewish ethicist and professor of religious studies at Carleton College. Each participant in the discussion group will receive a free copy of Newman's book.
The first of the two dinner-and-discussion sessions will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, in the O’Donnell Room, Room 208E, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. The second session will be held with Newman at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, in the Rogge Room, Murray-Herrick Campus Center, followed by Newman’s public lecture at 7:30 p.m. in 3M Auditorium, Owens Science Hall.
