Lessons of the benefits of diversity

Well over 1000 registered attendees, speakers, volunteers, and exhibitors from 35 states and Canada gathered at the Minneapolis Convention Center last Wednesday and Thursday for the 22nd annual Multicultural Forum on Workplace Diversity.

The highlight for me this year was hearing Craig Herkert, CEO of SUPERVALU tell his personal journey of discovering the business imperatives of understanding and including diversity in the grocery business. Rarely have I heard a speaker with such passion! He clearly understands the connection of doing “the right thing” and “doing it right” for business success. By surrounding himself with, and listening to, diverse teams, he is able to lead SUPERVALU to serve their diverse customer base.

The conference theme, Securing the D&I Future: Evolving Strategies, Meaningful Outcomes, was well supported by the 73 workshops, three keynote addresses, hosted and spontaneous dinners, and lots of early morning and late evening networking.

Presented by the UST Opus College of Business in partnership with the Twin Cities Chapter of the National Black MBA Association, the Forum has become known nationwide as the premier conference for sharing best practices and learning about the breadth and depth of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Don’t miss out! Mark your calendar now for March 23-24, 2011 and plan to be present at the Minneapolis Convention Center when the Multicultural Forum convenes for its 23rd annual run.
