Library today: Historical Statistics of the United States database featured
From UST Libraries
UST Libraries continues to add new electronic resources, and we will highlight them over the next several weeks in the Bulletin Today. This week's featured database is Historical Statistics of the United States.
Historical Statistics of the United States is an electronic version of a standard print resource for both academic and public libraries. It contains quantitative statistics on a wide variety of topics such as population, migration, economics, education and standard of living.
Users can conduct basic searches using key words or more complicated advanced searching by date, contributor or documentation source. Users also can browse the table of contents for topics to study and many tables include links to scholarly essays in order to put the statistics in the context of their times.
All of the statistical tables are sourced and documented clearly with key definitions to eliminate doubt as to where the data comes from and what it means. Tables or segments of tables can be downloaded into Excel, e-mailed or presented as a graph. The content of this database, along with the ease of searching and multiple methods of presenting the data makes Historical Statistics of the United States ideal for historians and other patrons doing research in the social sciences.
