Environmental stewardship is again the subject of a spring semester reading group sponsored by the Office of Mission.
The text for spring is Dr. Sandra Steingraber’s Living Downstream. Steingraber has a doctorate in biology from the University of Michigan and is a cancer survivor. She advocates a human rights approach to examining the systems underlying the development and use of chemicals in society, noting that “we do not all bear equal risks.”
The reading group is open to faculty, staff and students. Complimentary books will be distributed to group members near the end of January, and the group will meet three times during the spring to discuss the book. Dr. Elise Amel, Psychology, will moderate the environmental stewardship book-based discussions.
