Luann Dummer Center for Women board names new members

Two new members have joined the Luann Dummer Center for Women Advisory Board, Dr. Vanessa Cornett-Murtada, Music Department, and Rebecca Supeyo, a graduate student.

Cornett-Murtada will fill the faculty position that previously was held by Dr. Mark Stansbury-O’Donnell. Cornett-Murtada has organizational experience on issues related to women, including the creation of a foundation to support breast cancer research and development of the Clothesline Project at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. In addition, her area of research has focused on women musicians.

Supeyo will fill the graduate student position left by Heather Farber-Lau, who has graduated. Born in Kenya and a member of the Maasai tribe, Supeyo is working on her M.B.A. In addition to her experience with many community outreach programs such as the Greater Twin Cities United Way and serving on the board of directors for the Maasai Community Connections, she also mentors young women in an adult literacy program.

The other members of the women’s center board are: Breanna Alston, undergraduate student; Elizabeth Dussol, Academic Counseling; Dr. Angela High-Pippert, Women’s Studies; Dr. Jill Manske, Biology; Katie Ngumba, Center for Intercultural Learning and Community Engagement; Dr. Brenda Powell, English; Patricia Satzer, Law Library and UAWE; and Victoria Svoboda, Dean of Students.

The board thanks Stansbury-O’Donnell and Farber-Lau for their dedicated service.
