Meet photographer Michael Melman Oct. 5

Photographer Michael Melman will be on campus for a "meet the artist" coffee hour at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in Food for Thought, second level, Terrence Murphy Hall, Minneapolis campus.

Everyone is welcome to stop by for coffee and an opportunity to meet and talk with Melman, a retired architect and fine art photographer.

His exhibit, "Minnesota Elegy," features fine photographs of older buildings around Minnesota. The photos will remain on display in Food for Thought through October.

From Melman's artist's statement:
"Even in my youth I was drawn to the city as a subject and, as a youngster, I made drawings and paintings of my Bronx surroundings.

"When I moved to the city of Minneapolis in 1972, I became fascinated with Minnesota’s urban past. I started photographing the dwindling remains of urban architectures finest era – the period between 1880 and 1940. These silver prints are the fruit of that labor."

Melman has published a book of photographs, The Quiet Hours, through the University of Minnesota Press. He is working on a second book of photographs.
