Please remember in your prayers Chester Hastings, 84, who passed away Feb. 18 in Waco, Texas. He was the father of Terri Hastings, director of programs and operations for the Center for Ethical Business Cultures in the Opus College of Business.
Hastings became the first dean of students at Del Mar College in the 1960s and the first Dean at McLennan Community College in 1966. He then served in several vice president positions at MCC, retiring as senior vice president in 1988. The day after he retired from MCC, Hastings became professor of educational administration at Baylor University and retired, for good, in May 2001. While at Baylor he helped develop a doctorate in higher education administration and also served as director of a student services graduate instructional program.
He also served as an officer in the Korean War, during which he received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Waco.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Crestview Church of Christ, also in Waco. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery.
