Poetry Slam St. Thomas announces open mic-poetry slam on April 24

PSST (Poetry Slam St. Thomas) poets are back from the national competition. Come out and hear Riley Lang, Heather Poliseno, Ryan Kopperud, Mike Arleth and Meggie Elder rock the mic!

This will be a double feature from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, at Scooter’s.

First, the open mic: Sign up from 6:30 to 7 p.m.; performances will be given from 7 to 8 p.m. Express yourself. Performers get from three to six minutes – just do what you do on stage.

Second, the poetry slam, hosted by Lisa Arnold, just back from competing in Boston and Texas: Sign up from 7:30 to 8 p.m.; slam from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Bring two poems you have written, each under three minutes. No musical accompaniment, no props, no costumes. Judges are selected from the audience; the poet with the most points wins. But remember: The points are not the point, the point is the poetry.

Questions? E-mail Arnold in the Theater and Film Department.
