Christians of all denominations are invited to participate in a weeklong ecumenical prayer vigil that will begin Sunday, Nov. 29, in the Florance Chapel. The vigil will coincide with the first week of the Advent season, a time of prayerfully waiting for the coming of Christ and the celebration of Christmas.
This weeklong vigil will be held in the Florance Chapel, located in the lower level of the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas. An opening ceremony will be held at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, and the closing ceremony will begin at 11:50 p.m. the following Sunday, Dec. 6. Everyone is invited to these ceremonies. Christians of all denominations are welcome to visit the chapel at any time during the vigil to pray.
Organized prayers will be said from 6:30 to 7 a.m. daily during the vigil. An evening prayer service and time of fasting will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Several Christian organizations on campus will take turns leading these events. The Florance Chapel will be available for prayer 24 hours each day of the vigil.
The Christian Leaders Council is hosting this event to continue its mission of evangelizing and ecumenism. Last semester, members of the council met to pray and find common ground in a day of service. This semester, the council hopes to continue this mission by facilitating a deeper unity through the Holy Spirit.
