Dr. Pamela Nice, Center for Faculty Development, announces that her film, the documentary “Dreaming in Morocco,” was optioned for broadcast in 2008 by MNTV, a consortium of the Walker Art Center's film and video program, Intermedia Arts, IFP-MN and TPT, the local PBS affiliate. “Dreaming” also will be shown in a gallery exhibit at the Minnesota State Arts Board from Oct. through Dec. and will be part of the St. Paul Arts Crawl Oct. 12-14. The film was selected for the Middle Eastern Studies Association (MESA) film festival in Montreal this November.
Dr. Terence Nichols, College of Arts and Sciences (Theology Department), is the author of a book chapter, “How to Understand Transubstantiation,” included in The Best Catholic Writing 2007, edited by Jim Manny and published by Loyola University Press.
Dr. William Ojala, College of Arts and Sciences (Chemistry Department), is the co-author of a paper titled “Three Polymorphs of 4,4’-Diiodobenzalazine, and 4-Chloro-4’-Iodobenzalazine,” published in the September issue of Acta Crystallographica Section C: Crystal Structure in Communications.
Dr. Derrin Pinto and Dr. Richard Raschio, College of Arts and Sciences (Spanish Department), is the author of an article, “A Comparative Study of Requests in Heritage Speaker Spanish, L1 Spanish and L1 English,” in The International Journal of Bilingualism, Vol. 11, No. 2.
Two UST professors and one UST student presented papers at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America Oct. 27-31 at the Colorado Convention Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Kevin Theissen, College of Arts and Sciences (Geology Department), and UST student Mallory Pikus presented “A Record of Late Holocene Climate Change From Laguna Amarga, a Small Saline Lake in Southern Patagonia.” Dr. Thomas Hickson, College of Arts and Sciences (Geology Department), co-presented “Designing a Sedimentary Geology Course to Achieve Specific Learning Goals: If You Build It, The Content Will Come!” and “Deriving Bedform Phase Diagrams: Developing a Deeper Insight Into the Formation and Interpretation of Primary Sedimentary Structures.”
Dr. John Wendt, Opus College of Business (Ethics and Business Law Department), is co-author of an article, “Tackling Steroid Abuse in Interscholastic Athletics: Perceptions of Athletic Directors,” that has been accepted for publication by the International Journal of Sport Management.
Dr. Robert Werner, College of Arts and Sciences (Geography Department), is the author of a paper, “Inquiry-Based Learning at Minnesota’s University of St. Thomas,” published in the International Journal of Learning, Vol. 14, No. 1. Werner also presented the paper at the International Conference on Learning in June in Johannesburg, South Africa.
