Dr. Massimo Faggioli, Theology Department, College of Arts and Sciences, is the author of “Storiografia cattolica tedesca e Shoah: Memoria religiosa e politica della storia,” [German Catholic Historiography and the Holocaust: Religious Memory and Politics of Remembrance], published in Storiacmente (7/2011) 19.
Sheikh Odeh Muhawesh, Theology Department and the Muslim-Christian Dialogue Center, College of Arts and Sciences, gave an interview to Alghad, the largest privately owned Jordanian newspaper, on April 26. The full page interview discusses politics, Middle East revolts, the University of St. Thomas and the Muslim-Christian Dialogue Center’s role in creating dialogue between Muslims and Christians. Upon the release of the interview, some Christian leaders in Jordan contacted Sheikh Muhawesh hoping to learn how to establish dialogue in the country.
Dr. Thomas Redshaw, English Department, College of Arts and Sciences, is the author of two poems, “My Father’s Feet” and “Floaters,” which appear in the spring 2011 issue of Ireland’s national poetry quarterly Poetry Ireland Review (103).
Shannon Scott ’10, English Department, College of Arts and Sciences, is the author of a review of Commodity Culture and Social Class in Dublin 1850-1916 by Stephanie Rains (Irish Academic Press, 2010), published in the spring 2011 issue of New Hibernia Review. The review can be accessed through Project Muse. Scott praises the book for its scholarship in charting the evolution of consumer society in Ireland, and also for its atmospheric depiction of urban life.
Dr. John Wendt, Ethics and Business Law Department, Opus College of Business, is the author of “The Need for WADA to Address Confidentiality Leaks in Drug Testing in Olympic Sports − The Ian Thorpe Situation,” published in the International Sports Law Journal, the official journal of the ASSER Centre for International Sports Law located in the Hague, Netherlands. Wendt also co-presented “Implications for Concussion Assessments and Return-to-Play Policy Standards in Intercollegiate Football” with Dr. John Miller, Texas Tech University, and Nick Potter, Texas Tech University, and the Kansas City Chiefs at the 24th annual conference on Sport, Physical Activity, Recreation and Law in Savannah, Ga.
Dr. Meg Wilkes Karraker, Sociology and Criminal Justice Department, College of Arts and Sciences, spoke at “Preparing Future Faculty,” a workshop for University of Chicago graduate students, on April 29. The title of her presentation was "The Survey Course: What to Teach and How to Teach It."
