The National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals presented an honorable mention award to the Accounting MBA Program for promotional excellence in Web site design. Judges examined various site components, such as overall design, navigation ease, content, use of technology and interactive capabilities. The awards were announced at this year's NAGAP annual conference April 27 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Dr. Stephen Brookfield, School of Education, is the author of an article, "Unmasking Power: Foucault and Adult Learning," published last month in the Canadian Journal for the Study of Adult Education, Vol. 15, No. 1.

The Catholic Digest took first, second and third place in the magazine news and features category at this year's Page One Awards sponsored by the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists. The magazine also won first place for in-depth features reporting. Winning entries included stories about fire-fighting monks, a Catholic cable TV show, and unjust treatment of undocumented workers. Two of the award-winning writers are adjunct instructors in the UST Journalism Department: freelancer Cheryl Reed, who will teach magazine writing here next fall, wrote "A Matter of Justice," about the mistreatment of undocumented hotel workers; Catholic Digest managing editor Kathleen Stauffer, who teaches Media Writing and Information Gathering, wrote "A Walk in the Park With Jaci Velasquez," about the new Hispanic influence on Christian rock music.

Dr. Ameeta Jaiswal-Dale, Graduate School of Business, and Dr. Thadavillil Jithendranathan, Finance Department, will present their paper, "Fluctuating Returns of Dual Listings: Domestic and ADR Markets," at the annual conference of the European Financial Management Association June 27-30 in Lugano, Switzerland. Dale reviewed the paper, "Expectations, The Exchange Rate and Current Account Sustainability," for publication in the spring issue of the Global Economy Quarterly, Vol. 2, No. 1.

Jim Rogers, Center for Irish Studies, was the featured speaker at the final meeting of a yearlong series of "International Evenings" sponsored by the Minneapolis branch of the American Association of University Women on May 22. He spoke about the popularity of Ireland in mass culture and about the interdisciplinary academic project of Irish studies.

University Relations won two awards in the 16th annual Admissions Advertising Awards sponsored by Admissions Marketing Report, the national newspaper of admissions marketing. The department won a "Gold" award in the brochure category for a publication, "Visit the Real St. Thomas." The student viewbook, "Real Life," won a merit award in the competition.

St. Thomas received two bronze medals in the annual awards program sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Winning entries were: the 2000 Sacred Arts Festival poster, designed by Sara Klomp, University Relations, and written by Jim Rogers, Center for Irish Studies; and a calendar designed for university donors by Klomp and writer Julie Lund, Development Office.
