Real estate entrepreneur Ralph Burnet to speak April 4

Award-winning Twin Cities real estate entrepreneur Ralph Burnet will be next speaker in the St. Thomas Alumni Association’s 2007-2008 First Friday luncheon-and-speaker series.

The luncheon begins at noon Friday, April 4, at The Depot, 225 Third Ave. S., Minneapolis.

Burnet began his real estate career in 1968 and in 1973 founded Burnet Financial Group, which encompasses real estate, mortgage banking, title insurance and development. By 1995 the company was the nation’s third-largest real estate company. He now is chairman of Coldwell Banker Burnet.

Burnet has received the Upper Midwest Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Service to Humanity Award from the United Hospital Foundation, and has been inducted into the Minnesota Business Hall of Fame. He has served on the boards of Piper Jaffray, the Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Music, Breck School and Fannie Mae, and is a partner in the Minnesota Timberwolves. He acquired NBA City, which opened two years ago at the Target Center, and opened his first hotel, The Chambers, a luxury art hotel, two years ago in downtown Minneapolis. He is the largest stakeholder in W Minneapolis – The Foshay, a luxury hotel scheduled to open July 28 in the Foshay Tower.

On first Fridays of each month during the academic year, the St. Thomas Alumni Association's First Friday Luncheon Series offers lunch and a speaker of current interest. St. Thomas alumni and friends, along with the general public, are invited. Cost of each luncheon and presentation is $25. A limited number of $10 tickets are available to UST students at the St. Thomas Box Office.

Reservations for the April 4 luncheon are due Friday, March 28. Early reservations are recommended as these events fill quickly.
