Schulze Hall dedication events next week

Events next week will celebrate the dedication of Schulze Hall, St. Thomas’ newest Minneapolis campus building and home to the UST College of Business’ Schulze School of Entrepreneurship.

Dedication celebration events include:

Tuesday, Oct. 18

  • 4:30-7 p.m.: Entrepreneurship students will lead graduate business students and alumni on tours of the new building, located at 11th Street South and Harmon Place and downtown Minneapolis. Graduate business students and alumni also are welcome to a cocktail reception. For a preview of the new building, click here.
  • 5:30 p.m. in Schulze Hall auditorium: College of Business graduate students and alumni have been invited to a talk by entrepreneur and 1989 St. Thomas alumna Pamela Sheehan Ryan, founder of Designer Sports LLC. Wednesday, Oct. 19

3:30-5:30 p.m.: UST faculty and staff are invited to a reception and a tour of the new building. R.S.V.P. here.  

Thursday, Oct. 20

  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Schulze Hall auditorium: Father Dennis Dease, president of St. Thomas; Dr. Christopher Puto, dean of the College of Business, and university trustee Richard Schulze, founder and chairman of Best Buy Co. Inc., will welcome Microsoft Corp. founder and chairman Bill Gates to the campus for a conversation on entrepreneurship.

Gates and Schulze will give a presentation for entrepreneurship and graduate business students, “What I Learned From Starting My Own Company.”

Because of space limitations, students have been issued tickets, which they must present with their student IDs for admission.

Others are welcome to watch the simulcast via the university’s cable channel in Schoenecker Arena on the St. Paul campus and in Thornton Auditorium and Rooms 253, 254 and 255 in Terrence Murphy Hall on the Minneapolis campus.

  • 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Schulze Hall auditorium: The invitation-only dedication ceremony will be simulcast to 3M Auditorium of Owens Science Hall on the St. Paul campus and to Thornton Auditorium and Rooms 253, 254 and 255 on the Minneapolis campus.

At the ceremony Schulze will be thanked for his support of the university and for the gifts to the College of Business, and Gates will be presented an honorary doctor of laws degree. The Most Rev. Harry Flynn, archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, will bless the building.

Note: Faculty who would like to have the Gates-Schulze presentation or the dedication ceremony made available in their classrooms, should contact their academic technical person or the IRT Tech Desk, (651) 962-6230. Students who plan to attend these events but regularly attend class during these times should obtain permission to do so from their professors.
