Professor Abdulwahib Qalinle, who teaches Islamic law at the University of Minnesota, will speak about the nature of Sharia law in Islam and how it relates to American democracy on Wednesday, Oct. 12, in Room 100, McNeely Hall, on the St. Paul campus of the University of St. Thomas.

He will give his talk, “Islamic Sharia: Threat to Democracy?” from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The talk will include time for a Q-and-A session.
Qalinle has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School since 2004. He is an expert in the areas of comparative constitutional law, Islamic law, international law and the rule of law.
Qalinle has received advanced degrees in law from the International Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan, and from the University of Minnesota Law School. Most recently he was appointed director of the Islamic Law and Human Rights Program, which opened on Feb. 4, 2011, at the University of Minnesota Law School.
