The Black Empowerment Student Alliance and STAR invite students to showcase their talents at Ebony Mic Night, today, Friday, Oct. 21, in Scooter’s.
This event is biannual, and this semester it is dedicated to cancer awareness. The show allows for many variations of performance art, including dance, music or different contexts of spoken word (rapping, speech, etc.), depending on who signs up to perform.
The Dynamic Duo of Panama Soweto and Ken Arkind have taken their show from coast to coast.
Free food is provided beginning at 6:30 p.m., and admission is free. The show starts at 7 p.m. and continues until 11 p.m.

In addition to UST talent, Ebony Mic Night will welcome Dynamic Duo, courtesy of STAR’s Friday Unwind Program. Dynamic Duo is a spoken word act based in Denver, Colo., featuring Panama Soweto and Ken Arkind. They will perform from 9 to 10 p.m.
Dynamic Duo has performed at numerous venues, including The Nuyorican Poets Café and The Bowery Poetry Club in New York City, Da Poetry Lounge in Los Angeles, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Yale, Rutgers and numerous other universities, slam venues and high schools across the country as well as St. Thomas last semester.
They have performed with famous poets such as The Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word, Mike McGee, Pulitzer Prize winner Yusef Komunyakaa, and Last Comic Standing winner Josh Blue.
