Dr. Glenda Eoyang, founder and executive director of Human Systems Dynamics Institute, will speak Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the next event in the Association for Strategic Planning 2010 Breakfast Series. Her topic is “Adaptive Action: Beyond Strategic Planning.”

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast and the presentation from 7:45 to 9 a.m. in Room 202, Opus Hall, Minneapolis campus.
Eoyang will examine how in today’s global, interconnected and turbulent business environments, traditional strategic planning approaches that rely on assumptions about stable markets and predictable futures are shaky. Adaptive action provides a clear alternative with principles and practical tools to help build adaptive capacity.
Eoyang received her Ph.D. in 2001 from the University of St. Thomas. Her research was on social science and chaos theory. She teaches in UST’s Organization Learning and Development Department.
As a pioneer in the field of human systems dynamics, Eoyang applies principles of self-organizing systems to help people thrive in unpredictable environments. Since 1988, she has provided training, consulting, coaching, research, evaluation and facilitation support in the public and private sectors. Her published works include numerous scholarly and practical books and articles including Coping with Chaos: Seven Simple Tools(Lagumo, 1996), Voices from the Field: An Introduction to Human Systems Dynamics and, with co-author Edwin Olson, Facilitating Organization Change: Lessons from Complexity Science(Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer, 2003).
