Sun Microsystems COO to speak Oct. 4 at Schulze School of Entrepreneurship
The UST College of Business will welcome keynote speaker Jonathan Schwartz, president and chief operating officer of Sun Microsystems Inc., at a Sun Center of Excellence reception Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the new Schulze School of Entrepreneurship.
A cocktail reception will be held at 5 p.m. in the Schulze Hall atrium. Schwartz’s keynote presentation begins at 5:30 p.m. in Thornton Auditorium of Terrence Murphy Hall. A reception and tours of Schulze Hall follow at 6:30 p.m. To R.S.V.P. for this event, call (651) 962-4281.
Technology resources in the new Schulze Hall contributed to the Schulze School’s designation in July as the first Sun Microsystems Center of Excellence Business School.
Schwartz, 39, joined the Santa Clara, Calif.-based technology company in 1996. He was named president and chief operating officer last year. He is responsible for operations and execution of Sun’s day-to-day business, including systems, software, global sales operations, worldwide manufacturing and purchasing, customer advocacy, and marketing.
Prior to becoming CEO, Schwartz was executive vice president of Sun’s software group and chief strategy officer, and held other roles in the company’s investment, development and marketing areas. Before joining Sun he was chief executive officer of Lighthouse Design Ltd., which Sun acquired. He began his career as a consultant with McKinsey & Co. Inc., serving financial services companies. Schwartz has degrees in economics and mathematics from Wesleyan University.
