IRT Starts System Upgrades This Week

Tommie eXpress system update

The Card Office and Information Resources and Technologies will upgrade the CSGold system, which manages the Tommie eXpress cards, this week. During the upgrade, vending machines will only accept cash, but all other card functions, including door access, will continue uninterrupted. The outages are  expected to occur Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Blackboard offline for upgrade Aug. 6-7

Blackboard is scheduled to go offline starting at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, for an upgrade to Blackboard Learn. As this is a major upgrade, the outage is scheduled to last until noon Sunday, Aug. 7. During the upgrade, faculty, staff and students will not be able to log in or access Blackboard.

Wireless network and residence hall networks offline for Clean Access upgrade Aug. 7

On Sunday, Aug. 7, IRT will upgrade the Clean Access network protection hardware and software. Clean Access authenticates users on the UST network.

Clean Access network protection helps keep the university's network safe by limiting access to systems that are necessary for the user logged into the computer. Guest access only provides access to the Internet; student access allows connections to My Storage and enterprise systems such as Blackboard, Murphy Online and printing resources. Staff/Faculty provides access to the above as well as department storage and other internal resources.

Starting at 6 a.m. Sunday, the old hardware will be taken offline and the new hardware will be brought online. Access should be restored by noon Sunday.

How will this impact me?

  • During the outage, there will be no access to the wireless network on campus or the residence hall networks on campus.
  • When the upgrade is complete, all users will have to log back into the Clean Access system.
  • Users will still need to log into Clean Access whenever they move to new buildings on campus as the Clean Access connection does not carry across buildings.

As always, IRT appreciates your feedback. For more information about the changes, contact the IRT Tech Desk,  (651) 962-6230.
