Dr. Bernard Armada, Communication and Journalism Department, along with students and other UST faculty will lead today's Telos Project open discussion.
Sponsored by the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library, the semesterlong series seeks to bring a renewed focus to St. Thomas’ commitment to the pursuit of truth through the integration of knowledge across disciplines.
Meetings take place from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays in the O’Shaughnessy Room (108), O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library. Each week a professor from a different department gives a brief presentation on:
- His or her discipline
- What attracted him or her to that field
- Why the larger UST community should care
Today’s meeting will begin with a 15-minute introduction to Armada’s discipline and area of expertise, followed by a discussion and conversation among students and faculty. All students are invited to participate in the dialogue. Cookies and juice will be served.
Armada teaches Rhetorical Criticism, Argumentation and Advocacy, and Public Speaking. His research areas are in the rhetoric of race and the rhetorical construction of culture and public memory. He has won local and national awards for his teaching and research, including UST’s Distinguished Educator Award and the Gerald R. Miller Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation award from the National Communication Association.
He has published in journals such as the Southern Communication Journal, the Review of Communication and the Review of Cultural Studies. For more information visit The Telos Project Facebook group or email The Telos Project.
