Three St. Thomas music faculty and a guest will present a recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22, in Brady Educational Center auditorium.
Faculty members Paul Schulz (clarinet), Peter Douglas (bassoon) and Sarah Schmalenberger (horn) will be joined by guest pianist Frances Armstrong in performing Franz Berwald's "Quartet in E-Flat for Piano and Winds" (1819) and Daniel Baldwin's "Landscapes" (2011). Armstrong also will perform two solo works, Beethoven's "Sonata Opus 7 No. 4 in E-Flat" and Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 in C-Sharp Minor."
"Landscapes" will be featured as the final work of the recital and will be presented with slides of the landscape paintings of Frederic Edwin Church. Church, an American painter associated with the Hudson River School in the late 19th century, inspired composer Baldwin to write a four-movement work for piano and wind trio.
The recital is free and open to the public. For more information about the recital, contact Sarah Schmalenberger, (651) 962-5851.
