Update: Today’s Interfaith Blessing and Opening Picnic will be held indoors; March Through the Arches remains outside.

Due to blustery weather, two of today’s Welcome Week events have been moved indoors.

The Interfaith Blessing for the New School Year and Opening Picnic will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 7, in the field house of the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex. Those two events previously had been scheduled for the lower quadrangle on the university’s St. Paul campus.

People of all faiths are welcome to meet in the field house for a 20-minute service to mark the beginning of the new academic year. The free picnic follows the ceremony.

The March Through the Arches still will be held outdoors at 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 7, on the quadrangle of the St. Paul campus.

New first-year, transfer and international students will gather on the Summit Avenue side of the Arches at 10:15 a.m. After a welcome from St. Thomas administrators, students will walk through the Arches to the applause of faculty, staff, fellow students and some families.

All students who are not marching, staff and faculty are welcome to meet in the lower quad before 10:30 a.m. and add their applause to the March Through the Arches.
