From UST Crew

UST Crew will participate in the 42nd annual Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend, so be sure to wish team members good luck. The St. Thomas club team will bring one Men's Varsity Eight and one Women's Varsity Eight.

The Head of the Charles is a rowing race that is held every third weekend of October on the Charles River, which divides Boston and Cambridge, Mass.  The race is approximately three miles long and full of turns.

More than 8,500 athletes from all over the world have been training to prepare for this race all fall. Being the largest rowing regatta in the world, it attracts athletes of all ages from colleges, high schools and clubs. Participants come from 16 countries and six continents and make up more than 1,600 boats. There is also a two-day music concert and up to 250,000 spectators.

William MacDougall, president and CEO of Tourism Massachusetts, has said, "The Head of the Charles Regatta is a significant international event that gains global attention to Massachusetts. This type of event is important in the branding of the state as a world-class destination."

It is a feat for UST be a part of an event that is so well-known and celebrated.
