UST hosts concerts, recitals in October

The University of St. Thomas Music Department welcomes the public to the following free concerts in October:

  • 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in St. Mary’s Chapel at the St. Paul Seminary, 2260 Summit Ave. : Organist David Jenkins, director of liturgical music at the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity, presents a faculty recital. On the program are works by Bach, Buxtehude, Mendelssohn, Norholm, Nielsen and Langlais.

St. Mary’s Chapel is home to the 27-rank Cyril F. Rotter Memorial Organ, which was dedicated in 2000. Jenkins earned his doctorate and performer’s certificate from the Eastman School of Music. He also has degrees from the University of Iowa and Oberlin Conservatory. In addition to his work for the seminary, he also is an adjunct instructor of organ at St. Thomas.

  • 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall, downtown Minneapolis: The UST bands and choirs give a fall concert. Dr. Angela Broeker conducts the St. Thomas Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, Dr. Douglas Orzolek conducts the UST Symphonic Band, and Dr. Matthew George conducts the university’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
  • 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Participants in UST's annual High School Band Invitational give a performance.
