Here's a roundup of recent St. Thomas mentions of interest in various media. Read the stories by clicking on the links.   • "Golden Valley resident to receive Arc's Teacher of the Year award," Minnesota Sun Newspapers, Oct. 22, 2009. "In addition,[Barbara Wollak] teaches classes at St. Thomas University [sic] and serves as an assistive technology specialist for the St. Paul School District." 
  • "Education notes: News from schools," St. Paul Pioneer Press, Oct. 26, 2009. "St. Thomas University [sic] in St. Paul will be the site of a scholarly conference next weekend that will bring together philosophers and theologians from four countries to discuss environmental stewardship in light of Catholic teaching. Approximately 35 scholars from the U.S., Canada, England and Italy will participate in workshops and deliver papers. The opening lecture, 'The Universe and Other Little Things: Chesterton on Creation,' by Dale Ahlquist, president of the American Chesterton Society, is free and open to the public. It will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at O'Shaughnessy Educational Center."
  • "Conscience clauses not just about abortion," Biblical Recorder, Oct. 26, 2009, and Baptist Standard, Oct. 30, 2009. In this story, distributed by Religion News Service: "Rob Vischer, associate professor of law at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, argues for letting the free market determine access to all health care services."
  • "Expensive St. Paul Paving Project Raising Concern," KSTP-TV (St. Paul) and KSAX-TV (Alexandria, Minn.), Oct. 26, 2009. "Homeowners on one side of the street and the University of St. Thomas on the other side, will pay the other 25-percent."
  • "Joe Soucheray: It's not my block. They're not my bricks. It's just my money -- and yours," St. Paul Pioneer Press, Oct. 27, 2009. The columnist writes, "Goodrich had been torn up for a long time as part of a street project on Cretin Avenue, the 2009 Cretin-Goodrich Residential Paving Project. They have been digging up Cretin and a few other streets near the University of St. Thomas for at least the last half of what passed for summer this year."
  • "Denny Hecker: Driven by the deal," St. Paul Pioneer Press, Oct. 30, 2009. "Separating business ventures into their own limited liability companies is a legitimate and highly recommended business practice that limits the owner's liability, said Dale Thompson, who teaches business law at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business. If one of the companies fails, the owner will only lose the capital invested in that one LLC. An LLC also offers a company a tax advantage."
  • College Knights in Action, fall 2009. The St. Thomas Knights of Columbus council is recognized for its clothing drive this fall. The photo also appeared in Columbia Magazine, sent to more than 1.7 million Knights of Columbus.
  • "First leg of Petters trial gets under way," Minnesota Public Radio, Oct. 28, 2009. "But strange things can happen in a court room. University of St. Thomas law professor Lyman Johnson said great cases don't assure victory."
  • "Buy now for Christmas or wait?" KARE-TV, Oct. 29, 2009. "David Brennan, University of St. Thomas Professor of Marketing at the Opus College of Business, 'toyed' with the danger of delaying. 'One of the big stories is going to be that retailers got stung and stung badly by having so much inventory last year. This year they've reduced their inventory much more in line with lower anticipated sales.'"
  • "Meschinis juggle a family business," Star Tribune, Oct. 28, 2009. Famiglia Meschini winery owners Eugenio and Teresa Meschini '91 met at St. Thomas.

  • "Stillwater family sues to untangle mystery of son's spring break death," St. Paul Pioneer Press, Oct. 30, 2009. "Gunderson, 20, a University of St. Thomas freshman from Stillwater, died March 24 after he apparently slipped and hit his head on the bathroom floor. A spokesman for the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara, Mexico, said in March that it appeared to be an accident."
