Here's a roundup of recent St. Thomas mentions of interest in various media. Read the stories by clicking on the links. "Marvin Windows and Doors of Warroad, Minn., has been honored as Family Business of the Year by the University of St. Thomas’ Opus College of Business for 98 years and four generations of business success and community involvement."
  • Charley Walters' column, St. Paul Pioneer Press, April 30, 2010. The sports columnist wrote, "It will be "Dennis Denning Day" Saturday when the retired legendary University of St. Thomas baseball coach is honored at his alma mater between games of the Toms' doubleheader against Concordia (Moorhead)."
  • Charley Walters' column, St. Paul Pioneer Press, May 1, 2010. "Highland Park's Norb Robertson, who starred in baseball, hockey and football at the University of Minnesota and University of St. Thomas, where he was voted winner of the 'Mr. Tommy' popularity award, then taught and coached in high school at St. Thomas and Alexander Ramsey for 40 years, celebrated his 90th birthday Saturday with his wife of 46 years, Gwen, and more than four-dozen family members and close friends at Mendakota Country Club. Robertson, a member of the Mancini St. Paul Sports Hall of Fame with son Mike, a former three-sport star at St. Thomas Academy, still plays golf at the Mendota Heights par-3 course."

Since Grausnick was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, at age 17, his lifelong enjoyment of golf took on new meaning. 'It's an outlet for me,' said Grausnick, a University of St. Thomas sophomore from Shoreview who plays golf for the Tommies' junior varsity team. 'Your thinking is focused shot by shot.'"
  • St. Paul elementary instructor named 2010 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, St. Paul Pioneer Press, May 3, 2010. "[Ryan] Vernosh is from Green Bay, Wis., (yes, during football season he gets ribbing from his Vikings-fan students, he said) and got his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin. He later got his master's degree from the University of St. Thomas."
  • "New Okla. anti-abortion law temporarily blocked," The Associated Press, May 3, 2010. "Attorney General Drew Edmondson agreed to the order to give his office more time to retain Teresa Collett, a University of St. Thomas Law School professor who represented the state when a similar law passed in 2008 was challenged by the Center for Reproductive Rights. She also is the Republican nominee in Minnesota's 4th Congressional District election this fall."
  • "Fitness funhouse: Enercise kids’ gym opening Saturday," Finance & Commerce, April 29, 2010. "Dave Brennan, a Twin Cities retail academic, said Enercise 'is an interesting, novel concept.'" But he wonders if there is a big enough market for the specialized fitness gym in an era when there are myriad of activities competing for kids’ time and their parents’ pocketbooks. 'There is only so much time and money,' said Brennan, co-director of the Institute for Retailing Excellence at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul."

"'This really was a very broad recession,' said David Vang, chairman of the Finance Department at the University of St. Thomas Opus School of Business. 'The fact that [Minnesota] is so diversified just reinforces the point that this was really bad.'"
  • "Mischke debuts on WCCO radio Monday evening," St. Paul Pioneer Press, May 4, 2010. "[Tommy] Mischke, a St. Paul native and University of St. Thomas graduate, is a columnist for City Pages and for several months did an online radio show for the alternative weekly. In December 2008, Mischke was let go from KSTP-AM after a 16-year stint with the station.
