UST library opens 50th anniversary year with free movie

The University of St. Thomas' O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center opens its 50th anniversary year with a free screening of the 1995 movie "Party Girl" at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in Room 108 of the library.

"Party Girl," starring Parker Posey (who also has appeared in TV's "Will & Grace," "Boston Legal" and "Project Runway"), is a coming-of-age comedy about a free-spirited, club-hopping young woman who takes a job as a library clerk to prove to her librarian godmother that she can become a responsible adult.

The public is welcome; movie treats will be served, too.

O'Shaughnessy Library, located on Cleveland Avenue between Summit and Portland Avenues, was dedicated on Oct. 28, 1959; a major remodeling and its Frey Memorial Library addition were completed in 1991, creating O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center.  It serves St. Thomas students and faculty, researchers and visitors and is one of four university libraries, which hold 615,000 volumes and numerous electronic resources.
