Volunteers needed for Minnesota Science Bowls

The University of St. Thomas community is invited to share its passion for science at the Minnesota Academy of Science’s 17th annual Minnesota Science Bowls for middle and high school students.

Volunteers are needed to join science professionals in providing an opportunity for 250 students to apply their science and math knowledge in a competitive format similar to the game show “Jeopardy.” Volunteers are needed for moderators, scorekeepers, timekeepers, scientific judges, runners and campus guides, in addition to many other roles.

A training session will be held the day of each event, but volunteers can complete an online review if they are comfortable with the rules and flow of the event and just need a refresher.

Volunteers are need for both the Minnesota Science Bowl for high school students on Friday, Jan. 22, at Macalester College, and especially at the Minnesota Science Bowl for middle school students on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the University of St. Thomas.

Volunteers are needed in two shifts at both schools. At Macalester, shifts are scheduled for:

  • Shift 1: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Shift 2: 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

At St. Thomas, shifts are scheduled for:

  • Shift 1: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Shift 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To volunteer at either venue, e-mail Lisa Warbritton at the Minnesota Academy of Science and include the date and shift that you are available.
