World adventure traveler and columnist Doug Lansky to speak here Wednesday

Travel columnist and Lonely Planet author Doug Lansky will give a lecture and give away a $940 first-class Eurail ticket at  8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium at the University of St. Thomas.

Lansky, a budget travel expert, will explain how to see the world for less than a semester of tuition. His talk is an MTV-paced, inspirational and humorous visual presentation with more than 600 images and video clips from his travels in more than 100 countries.

The talk covers how to travel safely, save thousands of dollars, find work along the way, hitchhike for free on yachts and get more out of your trip than hangovers and amoebic dysentery – although, jokes Lansky, "that's the standard starting spot."

Lansky grew up in Minnesota, graduated from Colorado College and turned down a job at The New Yorker before heading off to see the world. In addition to his nationally syndicated newspaper humor column, “Vagabond,” he has been a correspondent for public radio's “The Savvy Traveler,” a Discovery Channel host, contributor to National Geographic Adventure and Esquire magazines, and penned several books for Rough Guides and Lonely Planet.

Lansky will be available to sign his books following the lecture, which is sponsored by St. Thomas’ University Lectures Committee and is free and open to the public.

For more information about Lansky's talk, call Jennifer Perusek, chair of the University Lectures Committee, (651) 962-6136.
