College of Business faculty members Dr. Phil Anderson, Management Department, Dr. Leigh Lawton, Decision Sciences Department, and Dr. Rich Rexeisen, Marketing Department, and Ann Hubbard, International Education Center, had their article, "Short-Term Study Abroad and Intercultural Sensitivity: A Pilot Study," accepted for publication in the International Journal of Intercultural Relations.
Dr. Stephen Brookfield, School of Education, has won the 2005 Cyril O. Houle World Award for Literature in Adult Education. The award is given annually for the best adult education book of the year. Brookfield won the award for his book, The Power of Critical Theory: Liberating Adult Learning and Teaching (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 2005). This is the fourth time Brookfield has won this award; he is the only author to have won it more than twice. The award was presented this month at the annual conference of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education.
Dr. Mary Rose O'Reilley, English Department, read from a cycle of poems, "The Plain Speech," at the annual awards ceremony of the Academy of American Poets Nov. 3 at the New School in New York City. She was the academy's 2005 Walt Whitman Prize for her forthcoming book, Half Wild, which will be published in April 2006 by Louisiana State University Press.
Dr. Buffy Smith, Sociology and Criminal Justice Department, gave a presentation, "Building Social Capital Through Mentoring Relationships," at a recent conference of the Association for the Study of Higher Education in Philadelphia.
Dr. David Welch, Graduate School of Professional Psychology, reports that on Oct. 28 and 29, the school hosted the American Board of Professional Psychology national examination for counseling psychologists seeking board certification. The oral examination is a culminating process that includes the submission of a sample of the psychologist's work with a client in psychotherapy or supervision. Psychologist examiners and candidates came from Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington, D.C.
