Academic Affairs holds food drive Nov. 11-20

Did you know?

Of those who visit Minnesota food shelves:

  • 50 percent are children
  • 14 percent are children who skip meals regularly due to a lack of food
  • 47 percent are parents who skip meals regularly due to a lack of food
  • 20 percent are senior citizens

To help end hunger in the Twin Cities, the Office of Academic Affairs is conducting a food drive Wednesday, Nov. 11,  through Friday, Nov. 20.

The goal for the fall food drive is to raise $300 and collect 800 pounds of food. Donations will be given to the Keystone Community Services Midway Food Shelf. Checks can be made out to Keystone Community Services. Collection boxes can be found throughout the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses. (See locations below.)

How to help:

You can help by donating food or money at any of the collection locations and by spreading the word.

Most-needed food items:

  • Canned meat products (tuna, stew, chili, etc.)
  • Dried beans
  • Rice
  • Boxed dinners (Hamburger Helper, etc.)
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Canned soup
  • Pasta
  • Cooking oil
  • Sugar
  • Baking mixes

Also needed are personal care items:

  • Bar soap
  • Shampoo
  • Deodorant
  • Laundry detergent
  • Paper products
  • Toothbrushes
  • Diapers

Collection box locations:

A number of collection boxes will be located around the St. Paul campus, including the Grill, the C-Store, Koch Commons, the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas and various department offices.

On the Minneapolis campus, collection boxes will be placed near the Minneapolis Campus Services Office in Terrence Murphy Hall, near the Scholars desk in Opus Hall, on the second floor of the School of Law and in the Schulze Hall skyway.
