The Globally Minded Student Association and the Sociology and Criminal Justice Club will host a showing of the documentary “Anatomy of Hate” today, Thursday, March 8. The event will begin at 8 p.m. in the John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts auditorium, Room 126.
Featured on CNN, the film covers the fear that has divided the world – liberals vs. conservatives, East vs. West, gay vs. straight, etc. These divisions may grow more solidified and more violent unless people sit down with other people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and get to know them as human beings.
In an effort to stop the fear and start the dialogue, for the past two years “The Anatomy of Hate: A Dialogue to Hope” has been shown at universities, to community groups and to secular and nonsecular organizations, doing just that: starting dialogue. The film offers a starting point for the creation of a less-divided world by examining the biological, sociological and psychological mechanisms present in so many acts of war, violence and contention. A discussion will take place after the film, facilitated by five St. Thomas faculty members: Michael Andregg, Gerald Schlabach, Winifred Kinneberg, Adil Ozdemir and Father David Smith. Free wraps, pizza and beverages will be served.
