Cheer on Breast Cancer 3-Day walkers

Show your support for all those participating in this year's Breast Cancer 3-Day!  The participants will walk past UST's St. Paul campus on the first day of their journey. You're invited to join a St. Thomas cheering station between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21,  on the south side of Summit Avenue between Cleveland Avenue and Finn Street.

Feel free to sign up for a specific time by emailing any of the committee members listed below, or stop by and join in when you can.

Bring a poster, toot a horn or ring a bell! Cheer for your friends, your mothers, your sisters, your daughters. Wear pink for the cure or purple for St. Thomas! Among UST-community walkers in this year's 3-Day: Linda Shields, a recent University Relations retiree and a breast cancer survivor, and her team that includes Dr. Bernard Armada, Communication and Journalism Department; his wife, Gina Shields Armada (Linda's daughter); David Shields ’02 (Linda's son) and breast cancer survivor Marla Borer ’01 of the UST English Department and her daughter Anne Borer ’04; and Meg Hyland Downes ’95. Another 3-Day walker is Kristin Weber, whose mom, Diane Weber, was part of St. Thomas' Residence Life staff when she died from breast cancer last March 19. She was only 47.

Many in the St. Thomas community have been touched by or have endured this disease. The 3-Day cheer station is one way to show them we care about them.

Taking place in 15 cities nationwide, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is a series of three-day, 60-mile walks that raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research, education, and community health programs. Breast Cancer 3-Day participants raise a minimum of $2,300 and walk an average of 20 miles a day, educating tens of thousands of people about breast health with every step. As the primary beneficiary of the Breast Cancer 3-Day, Susan G. Komen for the Cure receives 85 percent of net proceeds, and the remaining 15 percent goes to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.

Last year more than 3,000 walkers participated in the Twin Cities Breast Cancer 3-Day, raising more than $7.3 million.
