Fundraiser Scheduled for St. Thomas Student Injured in Japan

Screenshot_2015-08-15-09-45-42-1St. Thomas student Luke "Sunny" Adams will return to Minnesota this week after being seriously injured while studying abroad in Beppu, Japan during spring semester.

Adams was struck by a car while crossing a street on April 24 and suffered extensive injuries, including five broken ribs, a punctured lungs, facial injuries that required immediate surgery, and a coma that lasted about two weeks, according to the Adams’ CaringBridge site. A prayer service was held at St. Thomas the following week.

Adams has been recovering in Japan and enduring rehabilitation and reconstructive work. To help offset the financial burden of the medical costs, the Adams family and friends are planning a fundraiser and homecoming event at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Bayside Grille in Excelsior, Minnesota. The event will feature a silent auction with items from St. Thomas and a variety of businesses.

Anyone unable to attend the event can donate funds online to support the Adams family via ClearCause.
