A “Celebration of the Life of Marv Davidov: Nonviolent Revolutionary” will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the Woulfe Alumni Hall in the Anderson Student Center on the St. Paul campus of the University of St. Thomas.
Davidov, an adjunct faculty member of the St. Thomas Justice and Peace Studies Program since 1992, died at age 81 Saturday, Jan. 14, at Walker United Care Center in Minneapolis.
"Marv was full of stories, spicy, and all the more beloved by our students for that," said Dr. Gerald Schlabach, a professor of theology at St. Thomas and director of the Justice and Peace Studies Program. "His oral histories of first-hand engagement in civil rights and antiwar campaigns stretching back decades gave St. Thomas' Justice and Peace Studies Program a resource that few other schools could rival.
"Of course he could be controversial, but even his opponents recognized his huge heart and ability to mix deep commitment to justice with zest for life and a contagious sense of humor. We miss him, but it will be an honor for St. Thomas to welcome friends of Marv from many places for this memorial celebration."
The March 10 program will begin with an informal gathering at 1 p.m. A program will run from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by refreshments. All are welcome.
A Facebook page about Davidov and the March 10 event can be found here. It is filled messages from friends who share photos and memories. An obituary that appeared in Bulletin Today can be read here.
The memorial is sponsored by St. Thomas’ Justice and Peace Studies Program and Friends of Marv Davidov.
