Multicultural Student Services announces new Linkages Mentor Program

Multicultural Student Services announces the start of the Linkages Mentor Program, which will be piloted during the 2007-2008 school year. This program is designed to help students create intentional connections or linkages between students and the larger university community in efforts to increase the retention of underrepresented students while also supporting the university strategic priorities of access and excellence.
Twenty-five Linkages mentors participated in mentor training and the Fall Leadership Institute (Aug. 27-30), which helped students to hone their mentoring and campus-leadership skills. This group of student leaders will mentor more than 30 first-year students this year. To cap off the week of training, Multicultural Student Services welcomed more than 30 first-year students and their families to UST during the first annual Linkages welcome reception Sept. 1 for a night of food and fun.
Multicultural Student Services is coordinating the efforts of Student Affairs staff and university faculty to facilitate workshops and mentor development sessions throughout the year. These sessions will help support the students in learning about the hidden curriculum in higher education.
