Center for Nonprofit Management Co-hosts Nonprofit Essentials Conference July 26

The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits’ annual Nonprofit Essentials Conference will be held Thursday, July 26, on the university's Minneapolis campus. The conference is co-hosted by the Center for Nonprofit Management.

Nonprofit Essentials provides a back-to-basics overview of the many management topics essential to nonprofits, and re-focuses staff on the core elements of working and managing nonprofit organizations.

At this conference, participants will find valuable large-group discussions, 16 skill-building breakout sessions, and opportunities to build networks with peers. They will learn practical tools and information about: fundraising, human resources, management, leadership, financial management, communications and more.

This year’s conference features a keynote address by Dr. Patricia Hedberg, associate professor in the Opus College of Business at the University of St. Thomas, on “The Essence of Good Leadership.” While good leaders possess seemingly intangible qualities, many aspects of leadership are quite practical. In her presentation, Hedberg will explore the idea that leading is an active and social process of getting things done. While good science exists to guide leaders, leaders also need to be artists. She will offer five insights on how to lead at any level in the organization. In the end, leaders only lead because they have followers willing to act.
