ODK National Society Celebrates Centennial, UST Circle Inducts New Members This Saturday

The University of St. Thomas Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa Society (ODK) invites the university community to celebrate the induction of its new members at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in Anderson Student Center, James B. Woulfe Alumni Center. ODK honors students, faculty and staff for leadership and scholarship in collegiate life. Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Jane Canney will be the keynote speaker for this centennial induction.

This academic year, the national organization is celebrating 100 years of service. Founded in 1914 at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., the honor society recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character. ODK recognizes achievement in five areas:

Scholarship
Athletics
Campus or community service, social and religious activities, and campus government
Journalism, speech and the mass media
Creative and performing arts

The society encourages the development of leadership in its members through service, both as part of the St. Thomas community and as contributors to a better society. All UST student members and inductees are of junior or senior standing, rank in the top 35 percent of their respective classes and show leadership in at least one of the five areas of achievement.

Several of the 2013-14 candidates are studying abroad this fall and will be inducted into the society in early spring. Kara Baumgardner, Galen Hilgendorf, Hannah Hanlon and Ashely Wancowicz are the 2013-2014 Executive Board, along with a very active current membership.
