Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father Jim Motl, professor emeritus of the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity. Father Motl was professor of homiletics at SPSSOD from 1985-2002. He died on April 22.
Father Motl graduated from Jackson (Minnesota) High School in 1953 and attended Saint John's University for two years before entering the Dominican Order. He was ordained in 1962. After completing his theological studies, he taught religion and speech for 10 years at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois. Upon completing his doctoral studies at Northwestern, he taught homiletics at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington D.C. from 1976-85. After leaving SPSSOD, he taught at the Aquinas Institute in St. Louis.
A funeral Mass was on Friday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church (1530 Jackson Ave., River Forest, Illinois), with a sung morning prayer and Office of the Dead beginning an hour prior to the service. Burial took place at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Illinois, followed by a 11:15 a.m. luncheon.
