Arthur Radcliffe

Arthur Radcliffe

He graduated magna cum laude from the College of St. Thomas in 1946 and later received a master of social work degree from the University of Minnesota. As an adjunct faculty member at St. Thomas in 1961, he developed and taught the first courses in social work here.

“It is clear that his career epitomized a commitment to service and justice,” said Dr. Barbara Shank, dean of the School of Social Work at the universities of St. Thomas and St. Catherine. “We are indebted to his commitment, passion and vision.”

After graduating from St. Thomas, Radcliffe taught ancient and American history at the St. Thomas Academy. He left to direct the Christ Child Community Center, and then held leadership positions for more than 25 years in the archdiocesan social service organization known today as Catholic Charities.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 10, at Lumen Christi Catholic Church in St. Paul. An obituary notice can be read here.
