Please remember in your prayers Henrietta Schmoll Rauenhorst, a longtime friend and benefactor of the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine University. She died Tuesday evening, Oct. 12.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Our Lady of Grace Church in Edina. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the church. Visitation also will be held one hour prior to Mass on Saturday.
Henrietta was a 1949 graduate and later a trustee of St. Catherine. Her husband, Gerald, is a 1948 St. Thomas graduate and has been a trustee here since 1966. The couple started Rauenhorst Construction (later named Opus) at their Richfield home in 1953. Over the past 50 years the company has designed or built more than 20 buildings on the St. Thomas campus.
Five years ago Henrietta and Gerald received the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Award, the highest honor conferred by the National Catholic Education Association.
Two years ago, St. Catherine named its school of health the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health in her honor. Also named in her honor at St. Catherine are the ballroom in the Coeur de Catherine center and a residence hall.
Henrietta served on the St. Catherine Board of Trustees throughout the 1980s. Her daughter-in-law, Karen Rauenhorst, is currently vice chair of the board there. A daughter, Amy Goldman, serves with her father on the St. Thomas board.
Henrietta is survived by her husband and seven children.
