Please remember in your prayers John Farley, founding director of the St. Thomas Management Center

John H. "Jack" Farley, 80, founding director (1956-1972) of the College of St. Thomas Management Center -- a precursor to what is now the university's Center for Business Excellence -- died April 15 at his home in St. Paul. He had Parkinson's Disease.

Farley, who grew up in Minneapolis, graduated from Annunciation School in 1940 and St. Thomas Academy in 1944. After serving in the U.S. Navy during Word War II, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., while stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station. He graduated from the College of St. Thomas in 1948 and later earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota.

Farley served on the St. Thomas faculty from 1951 to 1972 and directed the Management Center (1956-1972) at the request of President James Shannon. He retired in 1994 as professor of management at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University, where he had taught since 1978.

A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, at the Church of the Annunciation, 509 W. 54th St., Minneapolis. Visitation is one hour prior to Mass. Memorial gifts are preferred to the Struthers Parkinson's Center (Park Nicollet Foundation, 6500 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park, MN 55426) and Farley Organizational Leadership Endowment Fund (College of St. Benedict, 37 College Ave., St. Joseph, MN 56374).
