Dr. Kenneth Goodpaster, Koch Endowed Chair in Business Ethics, did a lecture tour related to his new book, Conscience and Corporate Culture (Blackwell Publishers, 2007), Jan. 19-27 in the Netherlands and Belgium. On Jan. 21, he spoke at the University of Antwerp; on Jan. 22, at the University of Groningen; and on Jan. 24, at Tilburg University. These lectures were part of an interdisciplinary program called Studium Generale and were funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). On Jan. 25, Goodpaster addressed the Ministry of Economic Affairs for the Netherlands at The Hague.
Dave Nimmer, professor emeritus, Communication and Journalism Department, is the author of an article, “Rhythm and rhyme for the retired soul,” published in the Feb. 2008 issue of Minnesota Good Age, the Journal of Active Living. Nimmer will write a monthly column on his thoughts on retirement.
Dr. William Ojala, College of Arts and Sciences (Chemistry Department), is the co-author of a paper, “4-(4-Chlorobenzylidenehydrazonomethyl) Benzonitrile and the Bromo and Iodo Analogs,” published in the Feb. 2008 issue of the chemical journal Acta Crystallographica, Section C: Crystal Structure Communications. Co-authors with Ojala are his brother, Charles Ojala, of the Normandale Community College Chemistry Department, and Dr. Doyle Britton, of the University of Minnesota Chemistry Department .
Dr. Gene Scapanski, vice president for mission, received the Harlan Copeland Award for Excellence in Adult Education Programming from the Minnesota Association of Continuing Adult Education (MACAE) at its state convention Nov. 9, 2007, at St. Thomas. He was recognized for his work while dean of pastoral studies at the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity, wherehe developed the M.A. in Religious Education program as part of the Murray Institute, and designed and taught the first fully online course to be offered in the program. The award includes a $1,500 cash prize.
Dr. John Wendt, Opus College of Business (Ethics and Business Law Department), and Dr. John Miller of Texas Tech University are the co-authors of an article, “Steroids in Interscholastic Athletics: Does Reasonable Suspicion Exist?” that will be published in the Journal of Contemporary Athletics.
Dr. Scott Wright, College of Arts and Sciences (History Department), has four essays (on Muhammad Ali, J. Edgar Hoover, William James and Shinto) in the new edition of the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences
(Macmillan Reference, 2008).
