To clarify a Professional note published Feb. 26, a $1 million endowed scholarship in the School of Engineering will be named in honor of Dr. Ron Bennett, the founding dean.

Sharon Fischer, Minneapolis campus director of administrative services, was presented with the Annual Norm McGrew Award by the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. The award honors individual dedication to involvement in chamber volunteer activities and service to the community. Fischer has served as the first chair of the City of Lakes Chamber, has attended every City of Lakes event, has testified before the city council on public safety issues, has recruited new members for Leadership Twin Cities and has sponsored and hosted events. 

Dan Taylor, Facilities Scheduling, has published his third in a series of articles about his hometown of Barton, Vt., in the March issue of Vermont's Northland Journal. Taylor, who has long been an aficionado of his hometown’s history and lore, continues to uncover wonderful stories of the village’s past; this one recounts a balloon ascension in 1870 by world-famous aeronaut Samuel Archer King.

Dr. John Wendt, Opus College of Business, was selected by the coaches of the Big Ten Conference to serve as the official announcer of the 2008 Women's Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 21-23 at the Ohio State University in Columbus.

Dr. Scott Wright , College of Arts and Sciences (History Department), has two essays, “Newfoundland Becomes Canada’s 10th Province” and “Roman Catholic Church Reaffirms Its Position Against Birth Control,” in Great Events from History: The 20th Century, 1941-1970 (Salem Press, 2008).
