Public Safety would like to alert the University of St. Thomas community of a strong arm robbery that occurred on the Minneapolis campus.
At 5:44 p.m. Friday, July 12, a non-UST affiliated individual reported he was robbed by two suspects outside of Terrence Murphy Hall in the plaza area. The victim, who was blind, reported he and a male suspect had been released from jail together earlier that day. They met a second female suspect outside of TMH. The victim reported the first suspect put his arm around the victim’s neck and began going through his pockets. The suspects took prescription medication and other personal property from the victim, then fled the area. The incident was reported to the Minneapolis Police Department.
Suspect descriptions were obtained through investigation.
The first suspect was a black male, wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, black hat and black and white tennis shoes.
The second suspect was a black female with short hair, wearing a black tank top, black shoes and black shorts, carrying a black purse.
The University of St. Thomas believes that descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or cast suspicion on any individual. They are included here because they may reasonably assist in identifying the perpetrator of this incident.

Public Safety also would like to advise the St. Thomas community of several burglaries recently reported by the St. Paul Police Department.
Between Sunday, July 7, and Friday, July 12, SPPD took 13 reports of garage burglaries in the areas around Macalester College, St. Catherine University and St. Thomas. The majority of incidents were indicated to have occurred at night and did not involve forced entry.
Areas near campus include:
- 200 block of Cleveland Avenue South
- 2000 block of Dayton Avenue
- 2000 block of Laurel Avenue
- 1900 block of Portland Avenue
- 2000 and 2100 block of Princeton Avenue
Public Safety would like to remind off campus residents that keeping garages secured, particularly if you store valued property in them, is just as important as securing your residence. Insure all garage doors, openers and locks are in working order. Insist your landlord make any necessary repairs in a timely manner.
