The School of Social Work at St. Catherine University and the University of St. Thomas was one of 13 Catholic schools of social work that received a centennial Medal from Catholic Charities USA.
Dr. Barbara Shank, dean of the St. Catherine and St. Thomas school, accepted the medal in Washington, D.C., at a Monday, Sept. 27, event held in connection with the 100th anniversary of Catholic Charities.
The Centennial Medal “recognizes the valuable contributions of individuals and organizations to the reduction of poverty in the United States.”
Father Larry Snyder, president and CEO of Catholic Charities, also presented medals to social work schools at Barry University, Spalding University, Boston College, Dominican University, Fordham University, Loyola University of Chicago, St. Ambrose University, Marywood University, St. Louis University, Newman University, Our Lady of the Lake University and the Catholic University of America.
Since 1910, Catholic Charities USA has encouraged professional social work practice, provided opportunities for training and networking, and served as a national voice and expert on poverty issues.
