"Start Something That Matters" Offers 'Novel' Approach to Business

Students for Justice and Peace are planning to "start something that matters." In a book of the same title written by Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS shoes, there is this motto: "Love your work, work for what you love, and change the world – all at the same time."

Students for Justice and Peace will host an event tonight in conjunction with ideas presented in this book by Blake Mycoskie.

Students for Justice and Peace will be taking that to heart tonight during its "Start Something That Matters" event, which will promote the idea of pursuing a career focused on philanthropy rather than profits. The idea will be proposed and discussed in conjunction with Mycoskie's book. The event will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today, Monday, Feb. 13, in the Koch Commons Fireside Room.

A documentary that parallels the book will be shown. The film contains interviews with various entrepreneurs who decided to start businesses to change the world. The event will feature a discussion of the possibilities for students and young entrepreneurs to pursue careers such as those shown in the documentary, and the opportunities available.
