I don’t know if you heard the news this week but a private equity firm in Connecticut, “said Monday that it has acquired St. Paul-based Pearson Candy Co., the 101-year-old manufacturer of Pearson’s Salted Nut Roll, Mint Patties, Bun bars and Nut Goodie bars.”

The new owner plans to keep the St. Paul plant operating in the spot it’s occupied for 102 years, and has hired a Dairy Queen executive to run the company. Pearson’s current owner and CEO Larry Hassler started looking for a buyer last year. On Tuesday, Hassler spoke with Minnesota Public Radio.

If you’re worried about getting your hands on a famous salted nut roll–though it doesn’t seem that anything is going to change–you can always make your own. I just got this recipe from a co-worker last week:

2 ½ tablespoons butter
1 package Reeses peanut butter chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups mini marshmallows
1 jar dry roasted peanuts – saltedButter 9×13 pan. Layer ½ jar of peanuts in bottom of pan. Melt butter in the microwave – 30 sec. or until melted. Add chips and melt – 1 ½ min. Stir in sweetened condensed milk and marshmallows. Spread mixture over peanuts in pan. Cover with remaining peanuts and press down. Chill then cut.

    2. Pearson’s Salted Nut Rolls are currently on sale for $.69 at Cub Foods. I purchased 6 of them yestereday as a lightweight, highly caloric snack for a Boundary Waters trip next week.
